Summit Helsinki, Finland, October 2007
Young Peace Brokers from a multitude of countries flocked to Helsinki to attend the October 2007 youth summit. The theme of the summit was: “Using creative mediums moving from poverty to prosperity”. The Millenium Goal #1: eradicating poverty by 2015 was at the core of all work performed. The participants developed 4 wonderful projects:
- designed and implemented the process for a local fund-raising activity. They organized a benefit soccer game with the local Finnish girls soccer teams (and won); got the media involved with a great newspaper article and picture, and developed a poster which was distributed in town and collected money for a youth project in Finland.
- developed a model to have prosperous youth assist youth in poverty to shift. The model was portrayed in a great mural which will now start its travel around the world from High School to High School with participants of the summits presenting their experiences and insight to the student body.
- presented a live TV panel. They interviewed many individuals, leadership and teenagers and filmed their actions. The film will be available for schools to use as well will it be presented to the UN and UNICEF.
- produced a short clip placed on YouTube. The participants focused on their insights into poverty and their desire to change from poverty to prosperity for everyone.
Under the Same Blue Sky
Young participants at the Helsinki ThePeaceBrokers, Inc summit present their model for moving from poverty to prosperity at the final day of the summit. The model has been portrayed in a mural which will now become a travelling exhibition. The mural was handed to Unicef, the Netherlands on May, 19th 2008. The focus of the summit is always to develop projects for the youth in recovering communities. Each of the projects designed will be placed and executed under the Same Blue Sky fund. As the teenagers from the Tsunami summit stated:
"Everything changed for us except the sky stayed the same!. We want all to be prosperous and having a good future. For that we all work together to make the necessary changes but the sky will stay the same!"
